Getting to Shimonada & the Iyo-nada Coast
Every practical way to reach Shimonada & the Iyo-nada Coast from Matsuyama and the main gateways, with times, rough costs and how to get around once you arrive.
Shimonada is on the coastal branch of the JR Yosan Line — sometimes signed as the “Iyonada Line” — between Iyo City and Iyo-Ozu. Limited expresses do not come this way; they use the inland route through Uchiko.

By local train
From JR Matsuyama take a local train bound for Iyo-Ozu, Yawatahama or Uwajima marked as running via Iyo-Nagahama — not one via Uchiko. The trains are one- or two-car diesels with no reserved seats; you pay with a ticket bought at Matsuyama or, when boarding at an unstaffed station, by taking a numbered slip and paying the driver. IC cards cannot be used on this line.
The catch is frequency. There are long gaps, especially in the middle of the day and after dark, so plan both your outward and return trains before you go and build the visit around the sunset time. A typical evening visit means arriving an hour before sunset and leaving on a train 20–60 minutes after it.
By car or bicycle
Driving gives you freedom to stop along Route 378 and to continue to Ozu or Uchiko. Park only in marked spaces — the lanes around the station are residential and narrow. Keen cyclists ride out from Matsuyama or Iyo City along the coast road, about 35 km each way from the city centre.
Getting around Shimonada & the Iyo-nada Coast
The station is the destination; there is no town to speak of, just a few houses, the coast road and the sea wall below. To link the sights, use the same local trains: Iyo-Kaminada for Futami Seaside Park is two stops north, Iyo-Nagahama four stops south.
