By car
Rent in Matsuyama and take Route 33 south. Roads to Kuma Kogen town are wide and easy; beyond it, the roads to Omogo, Iwaya-ji and especially the karst are narrower mountain roads with passing places, perfectly manageable if you drive slowly. Fill up in Kuma Kogen — fuel is scarce further in. From Omogo, the Ishizuchi Skyline climbs to the Tsuchigoya trailhead (closed in winter and at night).
By bus
The JR bus from Matsuyama ends at Kuma Kogen’s small bus terminal, from where Daiho-ji is walkable. A local bus runs towards Iwaya-ji and Omogo a few times a day at most. A realistic car-free day is Daiho-ji plus Iwaya-ji by bus and taxi; the gorge and the karst are not practical without your own wheels.
